The electronic fine system rolled out in Saint Martin
The Collectivité of Saint-Martin has announced the introduction of electronic traffic fines (PVE) across the whole territory. This digital system now replaces the traditional paper fine placed on the windscreen of vehicles.
Equipped with handheld devices, local police officers can now record traffic offences and transmit the data directly to the National Processing Centre in Rennes. The notice of fine is then sent automatically by post to the address of the holder of the vehicle registration certificate. An information notice, which is not mandatory, may be placed on the vehicle’s windscreen. The PVE scheme aims to simplify procedures, minimise transcription errors, reduce the number of appeals and improve the collection of fines. The scheme applies to vehicles registered in Saint Martin, Sint Maarten, Saint Barthélemy and several European partner countries. Drivers who have been issued with a fine can view their case, pay the fine or lodge an appeal on the ANTAI website (https://www.antai.gouv.fr/). Any appeal must be lodged within 45 days of the fine notice being sent.
